Analyst questions
An analyst question is one an analyst put to management on an earnings call, with its topic, the concern behind it, its tone and how directly management answered. They show what the market is focused on, which a release never says. Transcripts are licensed for private research, so these appear only in the private view.
What one holds
| Part | Example |
|---|---|
| Asked by | The analyst, and the firm they work for |
| Topic and concern | Gross margin; whether pricing will hold next year |
| Tone | Supportive, probing or skeptical |
| Answer | A summary, who answered, and whether it was direct, partial or deflected |
| Metric | The metric the question was about, when there is one |
Why they matter
A release is written by the company. The questions on the call are what analysts chose to press on, so they show where attention is. A question that was deflected, or a concern several analysts raise in one season, can be worth noticing.
Who can see them
Earnings call transcripts come from a third party and are licensed for private research only. Their facts, questions included, live in a separate private graph, and the page shows them only in the Private tab, to access tokens that allow it. They never appear in the public view.
